TeMWEP

TeMWEP vocational skills and livelihoods

TeMWEP is a core Ndemaleckah Foundation initiative supporting young women who face barriers to education and economic opportunity. Its intended participants include teenage mothers and young wives, with a focus on practical skills, greater confidence and routes towards livelihoods.

The programme targets young women aged 13–25. Our ambition is to reach more than 300 young women over the first three years and continue the work beyond that initial period.

These are programme intentions. Enrolment, completion and livelihood results will be reported separately as records become available.

Why this work matters

Another route to skills and a livelihood

Early motherhood, early marriage, interrupted education and limited resources can restrict a young woman’s choices. Practical vocational learning can create another route to develop skills and pursue a livelihood. TeMWEP is designed to work with communities so that the support reflects local circumstances and participants’ needs.

More than equipment

A foundation for practical learning

The Foundation received 51 sewing machines with support from Gered Gereedschap in the Netherlands. The machines provide an important resource for the vocational initiative. Thinking Minds Foundation also supported the intervention that helped resolve the delivery issues.

Receiving equipment is one stage of the work. Preparing machines, organising suitable learning spaces, securing materials and supporting instruction are also necessary for effective delivery.

Our approach

Community-led delivery

The Chief Executive Officer coordinates the project with the support of community volunteers. Technical assistance for monitoring and evaluation helps the Foundation document progress and improve delivery. Local participation is central to the approach: the Foundation facilitates the work while communities help shape and sustain it.

Support needed

What would help now

We are seeking support for practical training materials, suitable work tables, machine preparation and maintenance, and the development of a permanent training environment. We also welcome technical partners who can strengthen instruction, mentoring and the link between skills and livelihood opportunities.
